Management Theories can be considered as the cornerstone of any successfully run business. There are several theories that can be implemented in the management for the successful operation in the busienss. Some of the management theories are age old while some are very contemporary. While most of the management theories are deduced from practical field and are tried and tested over a period of time. Many of the theories were in use in the past years while many more have a more recent approach too. These management theories can be applied to different businesses for the better operations of a business. These theories of management can be applied individually or in combination with each other.

Theory X and Theory Y are the popular management theories. In theory X it is assumed that the employees are very lazy and try to avoid work and therefore their works need to be supervised as well as th implementation of systems of control is also required. According to this theory the employees lack ambition without any incentive. thus according to th practitioner of the theory takes a pecinistic view of the employee and end up blaming them for some reason or the other and will look at the problems in the infrastructure.

On the other hand in the theory Y it is assumed that th employees are ambitious, motivated at their own and are ready to accept any greater responsibility. It is also assumed the employees will also have self control, they will guide themselves to empowerment and autonomy. The employer are believed to enjoy all the physical and mental responsibilities that are given to them. The theory also believes that the employees have ambition and want to perform well in the work if he or she is given the correct working conditions. The theory bring a positive outlook for the employees and try to remove the things that com between the workers and their performance. according to the critics both the management theories namely theory X and theory Y presents two of the extreme sides and cannot be applied in a practical environment. Therefore a combination of both the management theories should be applied.

Another popular name among management theories is the Theory Z which is often called as Japanese management. In this theory the stress is given to th employee loyalty with a focus on the welfare of the employees.

Prt from these theories there are some other contemporary management theories as well. The theories includes scientific or classical theories which promoted hierarchies on the basis of performance a well as productivity.
